Government adopts climate change targets of 57% by 2030

Under the Climate Change Act, the UK has a long-term legally binding goal to reduce greenhouse gas emissions by 80%. The Government has adopted climate targets which will require cuts of 57% by 2030.
There were reports that Brexit would mean that the UK would no longer be bound by pressures from the EU to reduce emissions, but Energy Secretary Amber Rudd counters this by saying, “The UK remains committed to playing its part in tackling climate change to ensure our long-term economic security and prosperity”.
