Eon loses residential customers

Another Big Six Energy Supplier has become the latest to suffer, as Eon loses residential customers: competition from smaller rivals has sent sales in Eon’s U residential arm tumbling by 19%. The German-owned provider said revenues in its residential business fell to £1.47bn to the end of June from £1.8bn a year earlier.
Eon is not the first of the Big Six to report significant falling customer numbers this year, as many households increasingly switch to smaller suppliers in search of cheaper tariffs. British Gas lost almost 400,000 customers in the first half of the year and SSE lost another 50,000 gas and electricity accounts in the second quarter.
The latest industry figures show more than 30,000 people switched energy supplier in July, a significant proportion of which moved to smaller suppliers.
